There are many ways to around the 300 acres of downtown Bethesda. Visitors can walk from one end of the downtown to the other in just 20 minutes. Navigating the downtown is enhanced by the accessibility of the Bethesda Metro station located on Wisconsin Avenue, as well as the FREE Bethesda Circulator that connects Metro, parking garages, restaurants, theaters, shops and more. Bethesda also has 17 public parking garages and surface lots, marked with a blue P, that put you within a short walk of downtown Bethesda destinations. After parking, hop onto the Bethesda Circulator for a free, easy and convenient ride to your downtown Bethesda destination.
Parking Fees
- On-street parking is $2.25 per hour
- All surface parking lots are $1.50 per hour
- Most garage parking is $1.00 per hour* in long-term spaces (4 or more hours)
*Long-term parking is $1.25 per hour in the following garages:
- Bethesda Avenue & Elm Street Garage
- St. Elmo Avenue & Cordell Avenue Garage
- Woodmont Avenue & Edgemoor Lane Garage
Garage and Lot Parking on Saturdays, Sundays and County Holidays is FREE in Montgomery County Garages.
On-street, metered parking is also FREE on Sundays and County Holidays.

Pay-by-Cell Parking
Pay-by-cell phone parking technology is available in downtown Bethesda. Motorists must create an account, and then they can pay by using the MobileNOW! app to enter the location number, or scan the QR code on the parking meter, where available. The code identifies the space number and eliminates the risk of human error. Download the MobileNOW! app free from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Blackberry App World. Participating meters are labeled with cell phone parking instructions. Read and heed meter instructions to avoid fines. Register for a MobileNOW! account here.
